Hardwood Decking

« Back to Glossary Index

“Hardwood” actually refers to the wood harvested from any deciduous (leafy) tree, and not coniferous trees (softwoods).

In the decking world, these naturally weather-resistant hardwoods harvested and milled for decking generally include:

  • Tigerwood (Goncalo alves)
  • Ipe (of the genus Handroanthus)
  • Cumaru (Dipteryx odorata), also know as Brazilian Teak
  • Teak (Tectona grandis)
